Simple Made Easy
Watch the talk infoq.comStrange Loop 2011. Hickey pulls apart two words we usually treat as one.
- Simple means one fold: not interleaved with anything else. It’s objective.
- Easy means near at hand: familiar, already installed. It’s relative to you.
Picking easy over and over is how systems get complex. He calls the interleaving complecting.
Swaps he suggests
| Complex | Simpler |
|---|---|
| State, objects | Values |
| Methods | Functions, namespaces |
| Syntax | Data |
| Imperative loops | Set functions |
| Actors | Queues |
| ORM | Declarative data manipulation |
